About Us

NRI was formed in 2001, by the visionary owners of ten Independent Rural Retail operations.

Our Story

NRI was founded in 2001 by the like-minded, visionary owners of 10 independent businesses.

They were concerned with the growing corporatisation and inevitable polarisation (Corporate V Independent) of Australia’s rural merchandising industry.

Their drive behind the formation of NRI was an appetite for change. There was a need for a truly Independent group in the marketplace, without the cost and complexity associated with a corporate and/or wholesale structure.

Built on a philosophy of full transparency and equal status, NRI is unique among rural distributor groups, offering true equity and wealth-creating opportunities for its shareholders.

Today we have a National network of 152 stores providing Farm Inputs and Specialty Services for the Broadacre, Horticulture and Livestock markets.

The drive behind each business was an appetite for change. Corporates were taking over the Farm Input market. There was a need for a truly Independent group, without the cost associated with a wholesale structure.

Built on a philosophy of full transparency and equal status, NRI is unique among rural distributor groups, offering true equity and wealth-creating opportunities for its shareholders.

Importantly, we have established partnerships with the major supply companies because we present the most efficient route to market for their products and services. Through collaboration with our suppliers, NRI remains at the forefront of the latest technical advances in Agriculture.

Each of our stores has a unique service offering to suit their local producers’ needs. It is this intimate local knowledge that enables them to deliver the best production outcomes for their customers. Our shareholders also play an active role in their local communities through employment, community programs and sponsorships.

Today the NRI group has more than 110 stores in every state and territory of Australia, providing Farm Inputs and Specialty advice to primary producers.
