NRI was formed in 2001, by the visionary owners of ten Independent Rural Retail operations.

The drive behind each business was an appetite for change. Corporates were taking over the Farm Input market. There was a need for a truly Independent group, without the cost associated with a wholesale structure.

Today the NRI group has more than 100 stores in every state and territory of Australia, providing Farm Inputs and Specialty advice to primary producers.

Importantly, we have established partnerships with the major supply companies because we present the most efficient route to market for their products and services. Through collaboration with our suppliers, NRI remains at the forefront of the latest technical advances in Agriculture.

Each of our stores has a unique service offering to suit their local producers’ needs. It is this intimate local knowledge that enables them to deliver the best production outcomes for their customers. Our shareholders also play an active role in their local communities through employment, community programs and sponsorships.

Susan and James MacMahon had a vision to start a machinery business to service the horticultural and agricultural industries in and around Orange.

James with his extensive knowledge of horticulture, due to growing up on an orchard in Tasmania, saw the opportunity and commenced business in 1980 (Silvan Machinery), in an era when Orange was heavily populated with orchards.

As Orange farming diversified so did the business which quickly outgrew its original premises in McNamara St, and a larger premises was purchased in Peisley St.

Although the focus initially was farm machinery, in 1988 saw Silvan Machinery move in to farm merchandise which extended the range extensively allowing Silvan Machinery to be a complete farming solution. With this move a name change was prompted, as Silvan Machinery did not portray the direction the business was moving and was shortened to Silmac. James father John-Mac also moved to Orange to help out in his retirement as Silmac was going through this growth stage.

The new opportunities saw Silmac expand. Through growing strong relationships with clients and major suppliers-not-used Silmac soon became one of the largest suppliers-not-used of fertilizer, fencing, agricultural chemicals, animal health and machinery in the central west.

The new millennium unveiled a prosperous future for Silmac with both James and Susan’s two sons Max and Michael joining the business, each bringing their
individual expertise.

The year of 2009 saw Silmac take another exiting step forward, with the opening of another branch in Bathurst. The mirror store located on the busy corner of Sydney Rd and Oberon Rd has plenty to offer the Bathurst district with the same honest friendly service Silmac has built its name from.

The team at Silmac are excited about the future of farming and look forward to continuing to develop long lasting relationships, and maintain growing together.

AMPS was established by farmers who could see there was a lack of investment looming in local production research and wanted to do something to change this.

AMPS has grown over the years by showing their privately funded research projects are current and provide vital information to their members.

AMPS started as a small merchandise business that grew rapidly due to it being the place to get great product at a competitive price. The profits generated from the merchandise business increasingly fuelled the non-for-profit private research sector AMPS now so heavily prides itself on.

Promoting independent research that is current and useful to the grower has always been at the forefront of our minds. As well as important crop trials, we also ensure we test new concepts & products and that is why so many AMPS customers also use the merchandise side of the business. What better service than to be able to use a company for both your merchandise needs and research.

Slowly over the years AMPS has expanded from a small merchandise business supporting a non-for profit independent research department, to an end to end service for the grower. AMPS also offers storage and handling facilities that runs along a brokerage service. Storage and handling covers the growers needs when it comes to storing their overflow of grain. When you run out of space AMPS aims to accommodate your needs. With a variety of silo sizes, a drier and a free sampling service we are able to ensure your grain is always in the safest of hands. Understanding grain markets can be a time-consuming job for a grower, so that is why AMPS offers a brokerage service. Meaning storing your grain with us can also result in us finding you a buyer.
